Jacopo Pontormo | Scuderie del Quirinale

09 Oct 2026 – 07 Feb 2027

Dear Friends of the Scuderie,

The doors of the Scuderie are about to reopen: Pontormo will open to the public on Friday, October 9 and will run until Sunday, February 7.

The exhibition is the first major monographic exhibition dedicated to Pontormo, absolute leader of the great season of sixteenth-century Florence that embodies the transition from the full Renaissance to Mannerism, an eccentric innovator of classical models and for this reason the object of vast twentieth-century fortune, from Pasolini to Bill Viola, venerated object of desire for collectors around the world but also popular and loved by the general public for the traits of strong originality of his creative personality.

The exhibition promoted by Ales – Scuderie del Quirinale in partnership with the Uffizi Galleries, produced together with the Electa publishing house, is curated by Cristina Acidini, one of the leading experts on sixteenth-century Florence, with the support of a team of authoritative scholars that includes Elena Capretti, Philippe Costamagna, Bruce Edelstein and Carlo Falciani.

The exhibition will be an opportunity to see united all the main masterpieces of the artist, together with an extraordinary selection of works on paper. In addition to the substantial number of works arriving from the Uffizi Galleries, exceptional loans from museums and collections around the world (the Galleria dell’Accademia and Bargello Museums, the Istituto Centrale per la Grafica, the Louvre, the National Gallery, the British Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, the Art Institute in Chicago, the Getty Museum in Los Angeles and others) will be compared in the rooms of the Scuderie del Quirinale starting with Pontormo’s most famous and recognized masterpiece, the Visitation from the Church of San Michele Arcangelo in Carmignano, near Prato.

A path of great spectacularity predominantly chronological but not without thematic investigations. For those who wish to deepen their knowledge, our extensive educational offerings for adults and children will always be available with guided tours and workshops for children and schools of every level.
