Bice Lazzari | I linguaggi del suo tempo | Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna

10 February – 3 May 2026

The Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea presents Bice Lazzari. I linguaggi del suo tempo, a major retrospective dedicated to one of Italy’s most distinctive and underrecognised voices of the twentieth century.

Bice Lazzari (Venice, 1900 – Rome, 1981) developed a singular artistic language that traversed the entire arc of the twentieth century — from Venetian Symbolism to abstraction — with unwavering intellectual independence. Her work, characterised by rhythmic signs, grids, and linear structures, anticipates many of the preoccupations of post-war Italian art while remaining deeply personal.

The retrospective brings together significant works spanning six decades of Lazzari’s career, tracing her dialogue with the artistic languages of her time — from Art Deco decorative arts to concrete and informal abstraction — without ever fully belonging to any single movement. The result is a body of work that is both solitary and remarkably contemporary.

I linguaggi del suo tempo represents a long-overdue critical reassessment of an artist who chose Rome as her home and whose work deserves a central place in the history of Italian modernism.
