Fondazione Memmo presents Make Haste Slowly. Conversation Piece Part XI, the eleventh edition of the annual exhibition cycle curated by Marcello Smarrelli. The exhibition features Alicja Kwade, Paul Maheke, Enrique Ramírez, Prem Sahib, and Henry Taylor.

The title translates the Latin expression festina lente, attributed by the historian Suetonius to Emperor Augustus: act timely but thoughtfully. It describes artistic creation as a process that may emerge suddenly or mature slowly, but always through meticulous and profound engagement.

The common thread uniting the exhibited works is the perception of time — its measurement, its symbolic value, its role in the creative process. Alicja Kwade, 2025–26 Rome Prize winner at the German Academy Villa Massimo, brings installations that explore space and time in everyday life. Paul Maheke (Villa Medici pensionnaire) probes questions of identity and memory through the lens of history, while Enrique Ramírez, Prem Sahib (British School at Rome Abbey Fellow), and Henry Taylor each contribute works created specifically for or presented for the first time in Rome.

Conversation Piece has, since 2015, engaged over sixty artists from around the world, mapping Rome’s living art scene through the lens of its international academies.
