Duane Hanson & Others | Mirrored Fiction | Gagosian Rome
11 February – 11 April 2026
Gagosian Rome presents Mirrored Fiction, a group exhibition anchored by the hyperrealistic sculptures of Duane Hanson in dialogue with works by Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Andreas Gursky, Jeff Koons, Adam McEwen, and Bruce Nauman.
Since the 1960s, Hanson has created painted bronze sculptures of ordinary Americans — shoppers, tourists, workers — rendered with uncanny lifelike precision. In Mirrored Fiction, these figures enter into conversation with works that interrogate how reality is staged, consumed, and distributed across bodies, images, and social spaces. Gursky’s monumental photographs and Koons’s reflective surfaces probe the spectacle of consumer culture, while Gonzalez-Torres’s delicate installations introduce themes of loss, intimacy, and collective memory.
McEwen’s deadpan interventions and Nauman’s linguistic and spatial provocations complete a meditation on representation and its discontents. Together, the works reveal fiction not as the opposite of reality, but as its very fabric.
