Caterina De Nicola, Irene Fenara, Lorenza Longhi | Le imperfezioni | MACRO – Museo d’Arte Contemporanea di Roma
11 June – 30 August 2026
The Fondazione Paul Thorel presents the third edition of its prize honoring the Italian-French artist Paul Thorel (1956-2020), a pioneer of digital photography since the 1980s.
The three winning artists — Caterina De Nicola, Irene Fenara, and Lorenza Longhi — interpret the relationship between real and virtual life through works that reconsider our place in a turbo-capitalist society.
The exhibition’s title, Le imperfezioni (The Imperfections), represents an antidote to the predictable perfection of the machine, to accelerated time, and to computation. The works present labor as a gesture of resistance through artisanal techniques and organic materials, privileging errors and discards over computational perfection.
The artists created their works during a month-long residency at Thorel’s Naples studio. Each winner will be featured in a publication in the prize’s editorial series in collaboration with NERO Editions.
